Staff across the Council came together to help deliver 1.3 million items of personal protective equipment (PPE) to care providers in Blackburn and Darwen ahead of the winter period.

Earlier this year, the Council bought a reserve of PPE through the Lancashire Resilience Forum to make sure that local care providers don’t run out of essential items during the pandemic. This is in addition to supplies of PPE stock from the government which the Council’s procurement team have been co-ordinating.

Staff at the Council took a break from their normal day-to-day duties to help undertake the PPE deliveries.  Staff from the finance team worked with the procurement team to allocate PPE stock in the Council’s stores, whilst the transport team ensured the PPE deliveries made it safely to their destinations.

67 care homes and domiciliary care providers in Blackburn with Darwen received masks, gloves, aprons, visors and hand sanitisers.

Councillor Mustafa Desai, Executive Member for Adult Services, said:

These deliveries will help care providers across the borough prepare for the winter period and ensure that their staff and the people they care for have enough PPE during these challenging times.

The Council has further supplies of PPE in stock and care providers can get in touch to order items when needed.
