Coronavirus: Quick and easy way to check which ward you live in

Published Monday 24 August 2020 at 17:24

New rules are now in place for residents living in eight wards in Blackburn with Darwen.

The Government announced on Friday that people from those areas are not allowed to meet with anyone they don’t live with.

There’s also restrictions on public transport, visiting restaurants in those areas and the numbers who can attend weddings, civil partnerships and funerals.

You can check if you live in one of those areas by using our handy new tool

By typing in your postcode, you can check which ward your address falls under and also whether it is an area of extra intervention.

The areas are:

  • Audley and Queen’s Park
  • Bastwell and Daisyfield
  • Billinge and Beardwood
  • Blackburn Central
  • Little Harwood and Whitebirk
  • Roe Lee
  • Shear Brow and Corporation Park
  • Wensley Fold

If you live in one of eight wards above, or have formed a support bubble with anyone in these wards, you should not socialise with anyone from outside your household.

This does not prevent you from shopping, going to work or attending childcare settings including schools which open from September 1.

But it does mean any social activities indoors and outdoors can only be shared with those living in the same house.

The new rules also include:

  • Do not use public transport unless it is for essential journeys – including going to and from work and school.
  • The numbers of people who can attend weddings, civil partnerships and funerals is limited to 20.
  • Local restaurants are encouraged to halt walk-ins, and only seat people who book in advance. Up to a maximum of six people are allowed per table.

A stronger enforcement of covid-secure measures in workplaces will also be undertaken.

If you do not live in an area of local intervention, it is expected that you’ll be asked to follow the rules already in place across the country.

As a Council we are awaiting further updates and will provide more information as soon as we have it.

Remember, support is available for residents and businesses.
