Celebrating King Charles’s Coronation in BwD

As the whole nation gears up for a right royal weekend of celebrations to mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, here are details of how you can get involved in marking this historic occasion in Blackburn with Darwen.

The Coronation Bank Holiday Weekend takes place between Saturday 6 May and Monday 8 May.

Saturday 6 May is when His Majesty The King’s Coronation takes place at Westminster Abbey in London.

Sunday 7 May has been designated The Coronation Big Lunch day.

And there’s an extra bank holiday on Monday 8 May to give us all an opportunity to join in with our communities and local good causes through The Big Help Out.

Big Coronation Lunches / Street parties

The Royal Family are encouraging us to come together with friends, family and neighbours to arrange ‘Big Coronation Lunch’ events and street parties to celebrate the King’s Coronation.

Street parties are a traditional part of national celebrations such as coronations and royal jubilees.

You can download the Big Coronation Lunch pack for ideas and guidance for organising your event.

The official Coronation website has a range of useful templates and materials to help you with your Coronation celebrations, including homemade bunting ideas, recipe cards and kids’ activity sheets.

Road closures

We have now closed the application process for road closures for neighbourhood street parties.

Send us details of your events!

We’re compiling a webpage of Coronation events and activities in Blackburn and Darwen. If you’ve got an event happening over the Coronation bank holiday weekend, we’d love to add it to our What’s On round-up.

Send us details of your Coronation events and activities using this online form.

The Big Help Out

Taking place on Bank Holiday Monday 8 May, the Big Help Out is part of King Charles’s Coronation celebrations.

The King and Queen Consort support volunteering as a way for anyone to make a change to where they live. They’re encouraging us all to get involved in volunteering through The Big Help Out over the Coronation bank holiday weekend.

We know that in Blackburn with Darwen we’ve already got some amazing voluntary groups and individuals – and we want to celebrate them over the Coronation bank holiday.

If you’re part of a local charity or voluntary organisation, get in touch now to tell us:

  • What you do to make things better for your community
  • If you need more volunteers to join you
  • The types of things your volunteers can get involved in
