Christmas message from our Mayor and Leader

The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen has joined with the council’s leader in wishing all residents a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

It’s been a busy time for Mayor Cllr Pat McFall who has attended countless Christmas carol concerts, events and performances representing the people of Blackburn with Darwen.

Wishing residents a Merry Christmas, she said:

It’s such a privilege to be the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, but even more so at this time of year.

I’ve been proud to attend so many wonderful events across the borough and see such a fantastic community spirit in the run up to Christmas.

As Mayor, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all residents a fantastic Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

I’d also like to say a special thank-you to all of those who won’t get to spend Christmas Day at home with their families – including our amazing Armed Forces personnel and those working for the emergency services.

You all do an incredible job – Merry Christmas to you all.

Councillor Mohammed Khan, Leader of the council, said:

This is a special time of the year for our residents.

It’s a time to come together with our family and friends and enjoy the festivities and spend real quality time together.

It’s also a great time for reflection and to look back on the year and all we have achieved.

It’s of course been a tough year for the council, but we’ve continued to work incredibly hard delivering services for our residents and, despite the challenges, we’re really pleased to be ending the year on a high as the MJ Local Authority of the Year.

Councillor Khan added:

Despite the festive cheer, which we have seen in abundance at events right across Blackburn with Darwen over the last month, I appreciate that Christmas can also be a difficult time for some.

I would ask our residents to enter into the Christmas spirit and think about those less fortunate than ourselves – including elderly neighbours who may be lonely and feel isolated over the Christmas period.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our hardworking staff and dedicated band of volunteers who have worked tirelessly all year.

I hope that all of our residents, staff and those volunteers have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
