Almost £3,000 was raised to create individual gift bags for care leavers this month.
Thanks to Blackburn with Darwen Council Highways team, working with Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) and local suppliers, 98 care leavers will be presented with individual gift boxes this Christmas.
Thanks to the generosity of the group a total of £2,950 was raised, with the money used to create individual gift bags, containing thoughtful individual gifts for both girls and boys.
Head of Highways at BwD Council, Dwayne Lowe, said:
Due to the kind generosity of LCRIG, Tensar, Connor Specialist Paving, Jointline, AJ Bretherton Ground Works, Uni-Play, Multevo and Caseys, we have managed to provide gift boxes for 98 of our care leavers within the over 21 age category. This is an amazing achievement and will make a huge difference to some of our young adults who grew up in care. This would not have been possible without the support of the LCRIG team as all the buying, wrapping and creation of the gift bags was undertaken by Emily and Adam from LCRIG, and everyone at Blackburn with Darwen is hugely appreciative of this enormous and generous effort.
Susanne Ingham, Secretariat at LCRIG said:
We are delighted to be supporting the Christmas Gift Box for Care Leavers initiative again this year. The presents have been chosen especially for over 21 age group and we hope they will bring some Christmas cheer to care leavers this festive season. A big thank you to our very own LCRIG elves, Emily and Adam for their tremendous efforts and to all of the suppliers who have contributed so generously.
