A host of festive fun is on its way as Blackburn and Darwen’s Christmas lights switch on events are announced.

The Darwen Christmas lights are set to make the town sparkle again this year with a soon-to-be confirmed exciting line-up.

Music, entertainers and fun events are set to be revealed as the town finalises its big Christmas party night.

The event will be held at the newly re-furbished public square by Darwen Market on Saturday, November 18th, with something for everyone. The fun starts at 2pm with background music, followed by acts, fireworks and the switch at 5.30pm.

Blackburn town centre will hold its big switch on, with a special event on Saturday, November 25th.

The Cathedral Quarter will be transformed into a dazzling fire garden installation for families, followed by a fire and light display funded by the Council with Blackburn Business Improvement District and The Mall.

The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Councillor Colin Rigby will be joined by celebrity guest, TV’s Sam Thompson, to welcome visitors through a firelit archway into the Cathedral grounds.

At 6.30pm, crowds can countdown to the grand finale of Flame Oz’s light show which will lead into a aerial dance from the Ice Fairy and the switch on of the lights.

There will also be a pop up Festive Street Feast on King William Street throughout the day as well as a scheduled meet and greet in The Mall with Sam Thompson.

Councillor Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive member for Regeneration, said:

This year’s Christmas Lights Switch on in both Blackburn and Darwen sounds fantastic and will be a great showcase for the best that the towns have to offer and a great start to the festive season.

As well as enjoying the big switch-on, I hope people can take the chance to do some Christmas shopping and enjoy all the other attractions in both town centres.
