Some families supported by children’s centres and Blackburn Foodbank will this week receive special biscuits to celebrate King Charles III’s Coronation.

The biscuits have been baked by Darwen Children’s Centre cook Gwen Greenhalgh and sent on their way to local families via the Mayor for Blackburn with Darwen, Coun Suleman Khonat.

Coun Khonat said:

The Coronation is such a historic occasion and we want everyone, particularly our younger residents, to make happy memories that will last a lifetime.

Food is a big part of any celebration and these biscuits are a small gesture of kindness to help local families to enjoy something special as they watch King Charles crowned as our King.

The 500 Coronation shortbread biscuits are being shared between children’s centres in Darwen, Livesey, Shadsworth, Wensley Fold, Little Harwood, Highercroft and Audley, all run by Blackburn with Darwen Council, plus Blackburn Foodbank.

Families supported by these organisations will receive the biscuits in food parcels this week ahead of the Coronation on Saturday 6 May.
