Charity invites over 75s to join them for a cuppa, cake and good company

A  national charity dedicated to tackling loneliness and isolation among older people is inviting residents in Blackburn and Darwen to enjoy a few hours of tea, chat and good company.

Contact the Elderly organises monthly tea parties for small groups of older people, aged 75 and above, who live alone and would like some company on a Sunday afternoon.

Each guest is collected from their home by a volunteer driver and taken to a volunteer host’s home, where they meet with a small group for tea, chat and friendship. The group is welcomed by a different host each month but the drivers remain the same which means that over the months and years, acquaintances turn into friends and loneliness is replaced by companionship.

With many older people in Blackburn and Darwen suffering from loneliness, Contact the Elderly is launching a new tea party group in the borough and there are a number of spaces available.

You can apply for yourself or on someone else’s behalf (with their permission) online, or contact Jenny Bright jenny.bright@contact-the-elderly.org.uk or Freephone  0800 716543 for more details.
