On Monday 19 September, the day of the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, there will be some changes to our usual services as staff observe the bank holiday to pay their respects to our late Queen.
Town Halls and Customer Services
Blackburn and Darwen town halls will be closed, and customer services phone lines will be unavailable.
A variety of Council services can be accessed via the Blackburn with Darwen Council website, and our buildings will reopen on Tuesday 20 September.
Bin Collections
Bin collections will take place as normal on Monday, however will be paused during the Queen’s State Funeral as a mark of respect.
Household Waste Recycling Centres
These sites will be open on bank holiday Monday, although will close during the Queen’s State Funeral as a mark of respect.
Education & Children’s Centres
All schools, colleges and children’s centres will be closed for the day on Monday 19 September.
Libraries & Leisure Centres
Blackburn Leisure Centre, Darwen Leisure Centre and Witton Park Arena and all our libraries will all be closed for the day on Monday 19 September.
Blackburn & Darwen Markets
Our markets will be closed for the day on Monday 19 September.
Registrars
As on other bank holidays, our Registrars service will be available as an on-call service.
Funerals & Cremations
Services already scheduled at Pleasington Cemetery and Crematorium will go ahead as planned, in consultation with families.
Adult Social Care
Our Adult Social Care services will be operating as normal, as on other bank holidays. This includes hospital discharge support services.
