Changes announced for Daisyfield Pools

Following Blackburn with Darwen Council’s leisure review changes to the opening times of Daisyfield Pools have been announced.

The review looked at both Daisyfield Pools and Shadsworth Leisure Centre in the light of the Council’s reduced budgets and included a public consultation to find out what services people especially valued.

As a result the key things the public called for were maintained including access to the ‘Learn to Swim’ lessons at Daisyfield and public swimming at Shadsworth.

Following discussions with interested parties including residents and services users opening hours have been reduced at Daisyfield as part of a phased process.

From February 22, public swimming will be available on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4-8pm and  5-9pm on Friday as part of the second phase of changes.

The programme maintains busy sessions highlighted through the consultation as being most important to the community.

They include continued access to single sex swimming sessions, Learn to Swim lessons, lane swimming and the school swimming sessions.

Customers whose sessions are affected by the changes can access alternative sessions at either Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre or Darwen Leisure Centre.

Executive member for Culture, Leisure and Young People, Councillor Damian Talbot, said: “We’ve worked hard to make sure that residents are involved in the decisions we’ve had to take and to protect those services that they’ve told us are most important to them.

“Unfortunately with the budget constraints that the Council is facing these are changes we’ve had to introduce but we’ve done the best we can to minimise the impact.”
