Volunteers from across Blackburn with Darwen will be celebrated next week with a special event to recognise their contributions to our communities.
A number of events will take place during Volunteers’ Week, which runs from Monday 1 June to Sunday 7 June, with The Big Thank You celebration event happening on Wednesday 3 June.
Taking place outside Blackburn Town Hall between 11am and 2pm, this drop-in event welcomes all volunteers from across the borough to come together for a cuppa and a biscuit.
They can also collect special certificates in recognition of what they do for others across Blackburn with Darwen.
Councillor Phil Riley, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said:
We are indebted to the thousands of people who give their time and expertise to help others within our communities. The commitment and dedication to the causes, organisations and people they collectively support is remarkable and it’s only right our volunteers are celebrated during this week dedicated to them.
We hope in recognising and putting a spotlight on our volunteers that we encourage others to seek out opportunities to volunteer too.
The Big Thank You event on Wednesday 3 June has been organised by Blackburn with Darwen Council working in partnership with Lancashire Volunteer Partnership, Community CVS and Chip-In.

This event aims to recognise the power of our borough’s volunteering and its impact on our communities.
Together, we want to say a huge heartfelt thank you to all those who give their time and energy to volunteer, make a difference and create a more connected and resilient community through volunteering.
In addition to the main celebration event, there will be workshops focussed on funding and nomination writing taking place during the week, organised by Community CVS.
Plus a volunteer fair will offer information and opportunities on getting into volunteering for anyone who fancies become a volunteer.
