The search is on for the borough’s outstanding volunteers who go the extra mile to help others.

Their achievements will be celebrated at a ceremony at King George’s Hall, Blackburn,  on June 11.

The closing date for nominations is May 11 and categories include volunteer of the year, life-time achievement, contribution to grassroots community action and contribution to community cohesion and integration.

The ceremony is one of the events being organised by Community CVS, which supports the borough’s community and voluntary groups, to celebrate Volunteers’ Week (June 1 to 7).

A volunteering fair is being held at Blackburn Cathedral from 10am to 2pm on June 5. This will be an opportunity for organisations to highlight the work of their volunteers, the benefits of volunteering and recruit new volunteers.

Organisations are also being urged to hold their own events during the week which will be promoted by Community CVS on its website, social media and the national Volunteers’ Week website.
