This year’s Blackburn’s Inspiring event took place at Blackburn Leisure Centre on Thursday the 18th of September.
Now in its eighth year and formally known as ‘Blackburn’s Hiring’, the event is organised and delivered by Blackburn with Darwen’s New Directions team.
The careers event is held to inform and inspire young people about the options available once they leave school.
Almost 2000 young people attended the event from BwD secondary schools and sixth forms, as well as some young people who aren’t in education, employment or training.
Councillor Phil Riley, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council who attended the event said:
“We are committed to raising aspirations and to equip our young people to make an informed choice about their career options. We want them to see what opportunities are available in the borough and prepare them for their future. Events like this help support that vision. Thanks also to Future U who continue to make the event possible through their sponsorship.”
Director of Children’s Services and Education, Joanne Siddle continued:
“The previous Blackburn’s Inspiring events have always been a great success, and we always look forward to welcoming our young people to learn about their future prospects. Thank you to all the staff who organise the events, businesses in the borough and of course our schools.”
71 exhibits were on offer on the day, made up of both education and training providers as well as local employers.
Exhibitors included Further Education Colleges and school sixth forms as well as local training providers and Universities.
Employers included the Eric Wright Group, Forbes Solicitors, Lancashire Fire and Rescue and Leyland Trucks. The event was also supported by third sector organisations such as Youth Action and Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zone.
There were hands-on learning opportunities through interactive activities, as well as a chance for inspiring conversations with employers and learning providers. The event offers an opportunity for local businesses to meet with their potential future employees!
