Blackburn with Darwen Council is to hold its first public face-to-face meeting for more than a year due to the pandemic.

The Annual Council will meet at King George’s Hall, Blackburn on Thursday (May 20) following Government guidance and Covid secure measures.

The in-person meeting is for the decision-makers and the public, although numbers will be limited.

Anyone who wants to attend the public meeting is also able to do this remotely over the internet.

The link for the online meeting will be shared here tomorrow.

The Government has indicated meetings in person should restart after a decision was made not to extend the emergency law allowing councils to meet and make decisions remotely.

Council meetings were suspended in March 2020 due to the growing Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown which followed a rise in cases.

They resumed in Blackburn with Darwen using Microsoft Teams software to allow councillors, officers and the public to take part remotely over the internet.

The Annual Council formally appoints Members of the Council to the office of Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the forthcoming Municipal year.

The Member appointed to the position of Deputy Mayor is normally appointed to the office of Mayor in the following year, which in this case will Councillor Derek Hardman.
