Following its opening on Friday 20 March 2015, Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre is celebrating its 10th anniversary in style this weekend.
Ten years ago, Olympic freestyle swimmer Rebecca Adlington visited Blackburn to open its new £13.5 Sports and Leisure Centre, which was built in conjunction with Blackburn College.

Speakers at the event included Blackburn with Darwen Council leader Kate Hollern, Sir Bill Taylor from Blackburn College and the Right Honourable MP Jack Straw.
Ten years later, the Sports and Leisure Centre is as successful as ever and will be hosting a day full of free activities for members and non-members on Sunday 09 March 2025.
Facilities on offer the Centre include a 25-metre pool, a learner small pool with a moveable floor, a spacious 80 station fitness suite, a dance/aerobics studio with a sprung floor with over 50 classes per week, separate Spinning studio, sauna and steam rooms and two four-court sports halls.
Activities on Sunday are as follows:
- Badminton & Short Tennis (9 AM – 12 PM)
- Virtual Group Cycling Fitness Classes – Les Mills RPM, SPRINT & THE TRIP
- Family Swimming (Ticketed – book via the Leisure Hub)
- Dance Party with Shirley, Aaron & Mariyam (1:00 – 2:30 PM)
- Aqua Party with Shirley (2:45 – 3:45 PM)
- Kids Dance Party (2:45 – 3:15 PM) – Ages 5+
- Additional Drop-In Activities:
- Family Craft & Storytime (12:00 – 4:30 PM)
- Book Reading by BwD Leisure’s own Author Janek Puzon – Agent Glen (3:30 PM)
- Guinness World Record Henna Artist Samina Hussain (1:30 – 3:30 PM)
- Temple Martial Arts Kickboxing Demonstration (1:00 – 3:00 PM)
- Fitness Challenges with prizes to be won!
- Free Boditrax Assessments – Full body composition analysis with instructor guidance

Members who bring a friend who sign up for a 12 Month Anytime Membership will get the month of April totally free. And non-members who sign up for a 12 Month Anytime Membership will get the rest of March totally free with no joining fee.
