Blackburn Rovers players joined the thousands across the borough by having their Coronavirus vaccinations this week.
Goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski, right-back Ryan Nyambe and central defender Daniel Ayala were joined by under 23s players Lenni Cirino and Jared Harlock in scoring first doses of the vaccine at Blackburn Cathedral’s vaccination centre.
Goalkeeper coach, Ben Benson and performance analyst, Rachel Hindle also joined them for the opportunity to be vaccinated.
That means the majority of players and the club staff have now been vaccinated.
Ryan Nyambe said:
It’s so important we are all together in this. We all want life to return to normal and getting jabbed will protect yourself and help others. The vaccine site is in the perfect spot, it’s in the centre of town and the whole process of getting a dose takes such a short about of time. I’d urge everyone to get their jabs as soon as possible.
Dominic Harrison, Director of Public Health, said:
We’re really happy to be working alongside the NHS and Blackburn Rovers and their players on this campaign. It’s so important to see these young players embrace the opportunity to get vaccinated to protect themselves, their teammates, opposition players as well as their families and friends.
To see young athletes acting as advocates for the vaccine programme is really important and will hopefully be very influential on others coming forward. They have been keen to not miss out and that’s the message to everyone. Getting the vaccine means you can get back to doing all the things you’ve missed, as safely as possible.
Blackburn Cathedral is open seven days a week from 8.30am to 7.30pm to anyone aged 18 and over for both first and second dose Oxford Zeneca and Pfizer. You don’t need an appointment, you can just walk-in.
Jane Scattergood, Covid-19 Vaccination Director for Lancashire and South Cumbria, said:
All adults are now eligible so please come forward. We are inviting everyone over 18 to bring their second dose appointment forward to eight weeks to ensure everyone has the strongest possible protection as soon as possible.
The Covid vaccines are two-dose vaccines so you must have both doses for maximum benefit and protection to you, your friends, and your family. Remember – it’s a game to two halves – you need both doses. Do the double, be a champion and let’s beat this virus together.
