Calder Street play area is set to benefit from £28,000 for repairs and upgrades, which will include brand new equipment.
Last year, money was allocated specifically for the refurbishment of play areas, detailed in the council’s budget; which has benefited a variety of areas right across the borough.
In March 2024, we announced that Corporation Park was to receive £750,000 which included improvements to its play area.
Just before the summer holidays, we spent a huge £200,000 renovating two popular park play areas in Darwen, they are Whitehall and Bold Venture.
Also, in December, £24,000 worth of work was completed on the play area at Longton Street, Blackburn. This funding was secured from a planning application due to a nearby development, as well as additional council funds.
And of course, who can forget the fantastic transformation to the two playgrounds at Witton Park, which received an impressive £350,000 for a complete overhaul.
Now, it’s the turn of Calder Street play area in the Bastwell and Daisyfield area of Blackburn. As part of its refurbishment, it will see repairs and upgrades which will include a brand new see-saw, spinner bowl and climbing frame with a slide.
Work should be completed soon, so that the children in the area will be able to spend the summer enjoying the play area.
Councillor Shaukat Hussain, Assistant Executive Member for Environment and Communities said:
I’ve been lobbying for work to be done to Calder Street play area for over two years. This park is well used by the children in the area, especially due to the nearby school and community centre, and I’m looking forward to seeing them enjoy it in its new form very soon.
