Our Council and the benefits of working with us
We want you to picture yourself working here, making a difference to the residents we are so proud to serve. We also want you to share the pride we have in our heritage and the excitement we have about our future.
Top performing and ambitious
We provide more than 800 different services to people who live, work and study in the borough. The Council is officially rated as one of the top councils in the country. The Audit Commission, which checks local government performance, gave us the top rating in 2009. We are one of only 25 councils to keep this top rating since 2002. Find out more about the Council.
We are the second largest employer in our Borough with 2300 employees across a range of very diverse services.
We have six priorities and every person we employ contributes directly to one or more of them:
- Creating more jobs and supporting business growth
- Improving housing quality and building more houses
- Improving health and well-being
- Improving outcomes for our young people – education and skills
- Supporting and helping the most vulnerable people
- Making your money go further – supporting households in difficult financial times through efficient and effective use of council tax.
