Blackburn BID’s Search for Hosts with the Most

An innovative new pilot scheme has been launched for people who want to be part of the exciting programme of events organized by the Blackburn BID starting next month with Countryside Comes to Town on Saturday, June 25.

Volunteers are being recruited to become Blackburn Hosts as part of a partnership with Community CVS. They will be required to take part as ambassadors and stewards for a minimum of three hours on Saturday, June 25 as part of the Countryside Comes To Town event which will showcase the new Cathedral Quarter and take over the whole of the town centre.

The event features a host of international artists and attractions including Mr Bloom from CBeebies and Nadiya Hussain from the Great British Bake Off.

The BID is also working with Blackburn College to provide the volunteering opportunity to students building up their CV, wanting to practice their customer service and event skills.

Steve Foden, Team Leader at Community CVS, said:

The opportunity is also open to professional people who want to volunteer but find it difficult to commit to anything more than a few hours on an ad hoc basis. It may suit retired or out of work people keen to maintain their skills, or people who are simply keen to do something for the town.

People can put their name down for the full day or as little as three hours and will be provided with an event tshirt and refreshments throughout the day.’

BID Manager Harriet Roberts said:

We’re looking for positive people of all ages who want to be part of something really big. We already have a small bank of volunteers who have great fun working on our events. We’re ambitious to build that group up to around 50.

If successful the pilot will be extended to create an invaluable community resource for all kinds of events.  Blackburn Hosts will give people the opportunity to be part of the exciting buzz going on around the regeneration and rebranding at a time when a range of partners are working together to change perceptions and drive new visitors to see our wonderful new spaces.’

An information event is being held in the Lecture Theatre at the University Centre Blackburn College on Tuesday, June 7 at 12.30pm. A free lunch will be provided.
