People can get as close as they dare to a life-size, moving T-Rex at a free family fun day in Witton Country Park.

Reggae Rex from the Travelling Natural History Museum will be roaming around the Preston Old Road park from 11am to 4pm on Saturday, July 7.

First Steps Support Community Interest Company received £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund for the fun day which is being jointly organised with Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Entry and the attractions are free, and Reggae Rex will be joined by a model raptor and other dinosaur exhibits.

There will also be mini fire engine rides, karting, human table football, a mini roller coaster, Punch and Judy, a magic show, a fairground organ, street entertainment, a bouncy castle, an inflatable play tower and slide, gladiator duels, a play park, face painting and an assault course.

Councillor Damian Talbot, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive Member for Leisure and Culture, said:

This promises to be a fantastic day packed with lots of free family-friendly activities.

I’m delighted that it received Lottery funding and I’m sure that council staff will help to make it a real success.

A football tournament for under 7s, 8s, 9s, 10s and 11s  will also take place at the Witton Park Astroturf (with a fee to enter), and a range of stalls will be selling goods.
