Blackburn with Darwen Council’s registrars are working hard to get the register office Covid-secure so you can register your baby’s birth.

The government announced that you can now register your baby’s birth after a temporary stop was introduced in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Currently the government have relaxed the 42-day limit on registering a birth – so if you need to register a birth in Blackburn with Darwen you can do so from later this month.

Birth registrations must take place in person by law. Work is ongoing to get the register office Covid-19 secure before we can reopen and arrange an appointment for you.

We are working hard to do this, but keeping you and our staff safe is our priority. As soon as we know the date, we will let you know.

Any parents wanting to register their baby(ies) should email their details to: Registration.Officers@blackburn.gov.uk and a registrar will contact them to make an appointment.

The government has also updated their guidance on claiming Child Benefit: https://www.gov.uk/child-benefit/how-to-claim

If you are not able to register the birth of your child because of coronavirus restrictions, you can still make a claim to receive Child Benefit.
