BIRDS OF PLAY: Borough’s bird becomes England’s latest supporter

Football supporters literally come in all shapes and sizes – but now they can add a giant bird to their list of top fans!

Darwen Square’s famous Weavers Bird has been dressed to impress this weekend, thanks to Derek and Mark from the Council’s Darwen Market team.

The pair took it upon themselves to adorn the town’s key focal point with England bunting to help get into the spirit of tomorrow’s nail-biting final.

They thought it would be a nice touch to decorate the iconic peregrine falcon sculpture whilst turning the whole square and market red and white.

And in honour of England making in into the Euro’s final, one our creatives spent five minutes coming up with these wince-inducers…(sorry, not sorry)

So here’s a bit of football bird pun fun:

–          Raheem Starling, Liverpool

–          Peter Crow-ch, Stoke City

–          Dan Gosling, Newcastle United

–          Robbie Fowl-er, ex-Liverpool

–          Ian Thursh, ex-Liverpool

Think that Toucan plan at that game?

Why don’t you head over to our social pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and ‘tweet’ us your favourite bird related football player?

Give it your best shot, tag in a friend (if you fancy) and we’ll put you into a prize drawn to win a £50 voucher to spend at either Darwen or Blackburn Market. It’s all in good fun so, please remember no foul play..

Come on England, we’re ‘hooting’ for you 🙂

The winner will be drawn at random on Monday, 12 July, 2021 and announced on the Council’s social channels.
