Unison Blackburn with Darwen has donated £100 to a social group based at a sheltered accommodation.
Branch treasurer Ben Greenwood and Councillor Maureen Bateson visited Brackendale Sheltered Accommodation in Ewood to hand over the money.
Brackendale residents, who include former Unison members, hold a weekly bingo group but their machine is not working as well as it should.
They spoke to Councillor Bateson about it who said she would look into finding some funds to go towards getting a new one.
Councillor Bateson said:
I was at Brackendale delivering Christmas cards and I spoke to Hilda who organises the bingo group. She had been up since 6am baking all sorts of cakes and treats for the Christmas party. She does so much for her fellow residents, I was more than happy to see what could be done to help.
Unison Blackburn with Darwen got to hear about it and kindly agreed to provide some funds. I was absolutely delighted and want to thank them for their help.
The group needs a little bit more so I am searching for more funding. It’s a really important social group and helps keep the residents healthy and active. I hope others are able to help. If you can help, please get in touch with me.

Unions are a force for good in society. We are delighted to be able to help this local project especially as several residents there have a connection with Unison. I think it is especially fitting in #heartunions week we are able to give something to the community.
Bingo group organiser Hilda Shorrock said:
I am absolutely delighted. It is really a very nice gesture.
