Blackburn Rovers Football Club have announced their support for the town to be crowned a city.

Blackburn Rovers Manager Tony Mowbray said:

“Football and other sports in the town attracts many out-of-town visitors to visit the many large and independent retailers and eating places throughout the borough. We have fans watching and listening all over the world – truly helping to put Blackburn on the world-wide stage.

“One of the club’s proudest moments was to welcome the Queen and her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, to the Club in 2014 which has since hosted some of the biggest occasions in sports, music and entertainment.

“Everyone at Blackburn Rovers Football Club fully supports the civic bid for city status.”
