Published Tuesday 30 March 2021 at 9:21

This year we are recruiting up to 20 new apprentices as part of the Council’s rewarding apprenticeship programme.

The successful programme has been running since 2011 and has employed more than 140 local apprentices in the last 10 years right across the Council.

Despite the pandemic our staff have been working around the clock on the front line and behind the scenes ensuring services for our residents were still being effectively managed.

Many people do not realise that the Council runs over 800 different services – providing everything from leisure services, community safety, public health, environment, education, public protection, planning, outreach youth work, licensing, births, deaths and marriages and countless other services

The work the Council does is always changing so no two days are ever the same. By joining our fantastic team, you too could be making a real difference to the place you live

The new job opportunities are for people of all ages.

Successful applicants will receive a professional qualification with the equivalent of one days training per week.

We currently have 52 apprentices across the council including trades areas, Finance, HR, IT, Early Years, Neighbourhoods and Adult Social Care.

85% of our Apprentices go on to secure further employment within the Council at the end of their training, with the rest taking up external opportunities.

Denise Park, the council’s Chief Executive, said:

We’re incredibly proud of our apprenticeship programme and really looking forward to a new intake joining us.

We realise that we’re living in incredibly uncertain times, but this scheme could offer a fantastic opportunity for someone to pursue a career doing something they’re really passionate about.

There’s a real misconception that apprenticeships are just for young people too.

Here at the council, we have apprentices of all ages – school leavers, college leavers, university graduates and residents who have decided on a change in career later in life.

They add real value to our teams, bring fresh ideas and new ways of working and very often go on to have really successful careers in local government.

To apply, simply fill in your details online and attach your CV.

The closing date is 30th May 21 but please don’t wait to apply as we may need to close some roles earlier if we have an over whelming response. The Council will contact shortlisted applicants in June

All positions are set to start in August / September.
