Amazing Grace lights up Blackburn

Thousands of people turned out to watch ‘amazing’ Grace Davies switch-on Blackburn’s Christmas lights.

Local girl Grace provided the ‘X Factor’ on the night as the crowds braced the cold to kick off the town’s bumper festive countdown.

Performing hits from her up-coming new album and fan’s favourites, including Roots which she sang with Paloma Faith on the hit ITV talent contest, she then joined Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Cllr Pat McFall, to do the honours and turn on the lights.

The official countdown was quickly followed by fireworks and even snow – much to the delight of the crowds!

The event kicked-off ‘Blackburn’s Big Christmas’ with a full programme of events leading right up to New Year’s Eve.

Following the success of the light switch on, which also included performances from girl band Tiger S and the Ribble Valley’s Ella Shaw, the countdown is now on for Blackburn’s first-ever Christmas markets – officially opening on Thursday in Cathedral Square.

And, this Saturday (Dec 1), the town will be taken over by festive characters for a special Christmas parade.

Princes, princesses, cheeky elves and of course Father Christmas himself will follow the route from King William Street to Cathedral Square at 11am and then again at 2pm.

It promises to be a magical, festive experience for all the family!
