Proposals to develop 73 new family homes in the Infirmary Waterside area have been given the go-ahead by Blackburn with Darwen Council.

It is the final part of land in the Infirmary Waterside clearance area and proposals include 18 two bed homes, 42 three bed homes and 13 four bed homes.

Four of the homes will be designed to cater for potential future disabled adaptations for residents who may need them.

Places for People, have previously developed 159 new homes next to the former Blackburn Royal Infirmary site. They have recently secured planning approval for their proposed scheme which will complete the regeneration of the Infirmary Waterside area and finish the development project started by them a number of years ago.

The Infirmary Waterside area has seen many improvements through the Housing Market Renewal Investment Programme which delivered a number of refurbishment schemes along with the clearance projects.

The decision was given the green light by the Council’s Executive Board and Places for People will now prepare to start the build programme over the coming months.
