Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive councillors have approved a new adult social care strategy aimed at helping residents to live independently, and in their own homes for as long as possible.

The Council’s new Adult Social Care Commissioning strategy 25/26 to 26/27 outlines the principles by which the authority will determine how and where it invests future resources, and provides a summary of the anticipated key developments over the next two years in all areas of adult social care commissioning.

The strategy is aligned with the delivery of the Council’s vision for Adult Social Care which is to ‘Build healthier, happier, safer communities, enabling people to be independent and in control of their lives’.

The strategy:
  • Outlines our population needs
  • Summarises challenges faced by Adult Social Care
  • Sets out the principles that will underpin the design and delivery of Adult Social Care services
  • Provides a summary of the plans we have for a range of our Adult Social Care services, for example, review of the provision of supported living services, ensuring that services are age-appropriate and support independence.

Councillor Jackie Floyd, Deputy Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said:

As a Council, we’re committed to ensuring we can meet the needs of our most vulnerable residents. We have carried out a complex piece of work with local partners looking at the needs of our population which has resulted in developing our new approach to making sure we have the right services in place at the right time.

This presents us with a great opportunity to collaborate with local providers to deliver high quality, value for money services that truly support our residents to stay well and live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.

When commissioning adult social care services, it’s vital we get it right for each individual. Successful commissioning can make a huge difference to those people who need our services, empowering them to live independently, enjoy a good quality of life, and remain in their own homes for as long as possible.

We are committed to working together with residents, the NHS, the voluntary, community and faith sector and wider partners, to deliver our strategy and to ensure we commission safe and effective services that are tailored to meet individuals’ needs.
