The Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and set a goal to be carbon neutral by 2030. Now, its detailed more information on how to achieve that ambition.
Our Local Plan (2021-2037) sets out the borough’s growth over a fifteen-year period and includes policies to support both the mitigation of carbon emissions and adaptation to the impacts of climate change. This includes how the Council will support the transition to low carbon and renewable energy whilst balancing material planning considerations.
The Local Plan sets out the Council’s commitment to produce a Low Carbon and Renewable Energy (LCRE) Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) to provide supporting guidance on the local policy requirements.
However, the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012 require the Council to consult publicly on an SPD before they can adopt it.
A report has been published to seek endorsement of the draft SPD and approval to commence public consultation.
