Don’t waste another second! Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has just launched a new competition and there’s £1,000 of cash prizes up for grabs!
All you have to do is head over to its brand new recycling website – www.recyclebwd.org – and take part in a fun, festive game helping Santa sort his rubbish.
Everyone who enters will be put in to a draw with the winner bagging the top prize of £500 with five runners-up scooping £100 each!
Councillor Jim Smith, the Council’s Executive member for Environment, said:
We know our residents need a bit of festive cheer right now!
Every year we send a leaflet out with information about Christmas bin collections and tips for recycling – this time we really wanted to do something to help lift their spirits.
Thanks to our recycling partners, SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, we’ve been able to offer £1,000 of cash prizes as part of our new competition.
The top prize of £500 really could make a difference at this difficult time – whether it helps towards paying a few bills or a treat for all the family – and the game is a bit of fun for all too!
The council launched the new website – www.receylebwd.org – following feedback from residents who said knowing what goes in each bin can sometimes be confusing.
There’s now a guide for each bin, handy A-Z lists and lots of hints and tips on how to recycle more.
It’s part of a concerted effort by the Council to increase recycling figures in the borough – with current rates being around only 30%.
Councillor Smith added:
While we can only let people aged 18 and over enter the competition itself, we’ve designed it in a way that means the whole family can have a go.
And, to help out, there’ll be lots of hints and tips in our new leaflet that has just started to be delivered right across the borough.
The game is quick and easy to do and it’s a good way of checking what goes where?
We hope it will also help make recycling much easier this Christmas!
I’d encourage residents to head over to the website and give it a go – just imagine that feeling in early Jan if you were to win £500!
There’ll be no changes to bin collections over the festive season due to the way Bank Holidays fall.
The new leaflet contains information about how festive items can be recycled and info about the household waste recycling centres and bulky waste collection services.
Ed Best, SUEZ’s Regional Manager, said:
We are delighted to support Blackburn with Darwen’s new recycling website!
The new website is a one-stop shop for residents to find out what material goes in each bin and will encourage local people to recycle more.
He added:
After a tough year, we’re very glad to be able to spread a little festive joy by offering £1,000 in cash prizes.
We look forward to distributing the prize money in the New Year.
