Young people thinking about taking their next steps on the career path are invited to Blackburn with Darwen’s largest ever careers event.

Taking place at Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre it will bring them face to face with prospective employers and educational establishments.

There will be a chance to find out more about a range of openings including apprenticeships, work placements, internships and graduate jobs.

Last year, more than 40 local employers and trainers exhibited at the event and between them offered over 200 opportunities.

This year, the businesses attending will represent a variety of sectors including catering and hospitality businesses, construction and engineering, digital and creative as well as health, social care, law and textiles.

Exhibitors include blue chip companies like IBM, along with local employers such as East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust and Forbes Solicitors.

The event is being organised by Blackburn with Darwen Council and Blackburn College, and will be held on Thursday, March 10 during National Careers Week.

Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive member for Regeneration, Councillor Phil Riley, said:

“I would urge as many young people as possible to attend this event.  Blackburn with Darwen has a thriving business network and this is a chance to get in front of some of those businesses and make some valuable connections.”

Nick Hall Business Engagement Manager at the College said:

”This is really important as one of the challenges that the borough has is retaining its young talent as often people are not aware of what is on their doorstep.

“It’s a great opportunity to be able to connect businesses that have real jobs to potential job seekers”

The event is open to 15-24 year olds and will run from 2-6PM at Blackburn Sports and Leisure Centre.
