Sunnyhurst Woods land slippage sees path closures

Visitors to Sunnyhurst Woods should take care to avoid part of the woods due to a land slippage.

Path closures are in place following the land slippage on Monday which it is the result of heavy rainfall.

The lower section of the wood is affected and United Utility engineers are on site assessing the situation and planning repairs as the landslide is close to a pumping station.

A number trees were also affected and as a result some areas are cordoned off to allow these to be dealt with.

The paths will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so and visitors are asked to avoid the closed areas.

Nearby residents can expect to receive letters from United Utilities to inform them about the situation and to expect some construction traffic.

The letter also reassures residents that the dam at Earnsdale Reservoir is unaffected and that water supplies will continue as normal.
