New ultra-modern pay and display parking machines are being rolled out in Blackburn.

The machines are solar-powered and let people pay by coin, notes or card, with a contactless display screen. They are also designed for all new designs of money including the new £1 coin.

Made by Strada, they are set to make paying for parking easier and faster for people visiting the town centre.

There will be 52 new machines rolled out across the town centre. On 26 of these there will be an opportunity for local businesses to advertise on screens on the pay and display machines, viewed by hundreds of people a day.

Councillor Jim Smith, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive Member for Environment, said:

These new machines will make it much easier for people to use our car parks, especially as there is contactless card payment which means there will be no need to fumble around for the correct change.

The option to pay by card, coin or notes, as well as the new £1 coin, will help modernise our car parks, and I am excited to see these machines rolled out across Blackburn town centre.”
