Blackburn with Darwen Council is supporting a series of local events designed to help older people stay safe as they move around.

The ‘Stand Up, Stay Up’ events are aimed at those over 50 and are organised by Blackburn with Darwen Age Well Partnership and The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

They will take place across Blackburn and Darwen during March.

At the events you can find out about aids to help you move around, have a functional fitness MOT, get a new ferrule for your walking stick and more

Venues and times are: Thursday March 2, 10am-1pm at Blackburn Central Library Meeting Rooms 1 + 2; Tuesday March 7, 10am-1pm at Audley Community Centre; Wednesday March 15, 1.30pm-4pm at the Barlow Institute and Wednesday March 29, 4pm-7pm at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy.

Councillor Brian Taylor, Assistant Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said:

These events promise to be both interesting and informative. So whether you’ve had a fall and lost confidence or just want some more information come along and find out how to stand up and stay up.

Ashley Martin, public health project manager for RoSPA said:

We are delighted to be working with partners in Blackburn with Darwen to help older people stay healthy and active. These events are part of a wider programme that will hopefully help many people to stay active and independent and reduce the effect falls can have on people’s lives  in the years to come.
