A giant 360° dome cinema will be landing in Blackburn this Saturday at the first of Blackburn Business Improvement District’s Street Fairs of 2017.

The “space-age” dome invites visitors to come inside to watch planetarium style shows at regular audio visual presentations throughout the day.

The first show, “Audio Sonic Vision”, is a digitally animated planetarium show featuring 16 minutes of music from The Constellation Collective. The second show “We Are Aliens!” is a digital planetarium show narrated by Rupert Grint, famous for his role as Ron in Harry Potter, and created specially by The National Space Centre.

The dome will be joined by a traditional bandstand featuring a range of performances throughout the day including local favourites Blowjangles and acoustic duo Odall.

Town Hall Street will be filled with stalls and entertainment including a display of owls and hawks, children’s rides, face painting, henna hand painting and food too!

On the same day, in Blackburn Town Centre, Blackburn Market will be hosting a free Kids’ Concert featuring Katy Ashworth from BBC’s CBeebies “I Can Cook”. With singing prince and princesses, Stuffets Puppets and the incredible skills of balloon modeller Bob Wooding, magic shows and quizzes, it’s set to be a great family day.

Harriet Roberts, manager of the Blackburn BID said:

This is the first of our 2017 street fairs in the Town Hall Street area of the town, which will take place again in July and September leading to a repeat of the BIG Christmas Street Fair which will take place across the town on Saturday 9th December.

Blackburn BID are staging the street fairs to encourage visitors to discover more of the town and also extend their stay with the free entertainment. We are encouraging local businesses to take advantage of these events to help promote themselves.

The BID Street Fair and Blackburn Market Kids’ Concert takes place on Saturday 20th May 2017.

The Street Fair runs from 10am to 5pm with 360° Dome Cinema shows every half hour from 10am with the last performance at 4pm. The bandstand will host performers from 11:30am to 4pm.

The Blackburn Market event takes place on Ainsworth Street, near the bus station, from noon until 3:30pm.
