Runners catch Commonwealth Games fever

Glasgow isn’t the only place the sporting action is taking place this summer – Blackburn with Darwen is full of Commonwealth Games fever.

Sport and fitness is the order of the day in the borough, with sports clubs, community groups and volunteers getting a slice of the action.

From athletics to bowling, netball to cycling, people young and old in the borough are getting fit and enjoying sport through a huge variety of activities.

One example is the runners who are starting to take over the borough, thanks to volunteer Rick Wilson.

Local man Rick organises sessions of the couch to 5K running group in Witton Park, and each running session has hundreds of participants, males and females of all ages who have been coached to jog from not being able to run to achieving 5K.

Rick was inspired by his own journey, which saw him go from an unfit 20 stone this time last year to a running leader after he took part in a charity 10k and caught the running bug.
