People are being encouraged to take part in the CONNECT Park and Stride to work event on Friday, May 15.

There are prizes, goody bags and a free breakfast up for grabs for those who take part.

Participants are being asked to take a selfie of their journey and Tweet it to either @ConnectBWD or email it to: charlotte.bradshaw@blackburn.gov.uk which will be used in a gallery of images on the Connect website.

The pictures will go into a prize draw with the chance to win an iPad, gym membership or a month’s travel pass.

Walking to work is a good way of encouraging team building when walking with colleagues whilst also helping you to save money and keep fit.

The Council’s CONNECT project, a scheme to promote sustainable transport options in the borough, is behind the event in conjunction with re:fresh, the Council’s free leisure service and the Workplace Champions.

The event is designed  to help staff realise that it is achievable to walk for all or part of your journey to work on any day of the week. This not only helps staff to save money but helps reduce congestion on our borough’s roads, a key aim of the Council’s CONNECT project.

It is hoped walkers will finish at Blakeys, where as an incentive, those taking part will be entitled to a complimentary breakfast, funded through the CONNECT project.

People are being asked to register in advance by emailing: charlotte.bradshaw@blackburn.gov.uk and stating whether they intend to walk from Witton or from another location.

Those who start from Witton Park will receive a goody bag  and tickets will be handed out for the free breakfast of a bacon, sausage, egg sandwich or fruit salad.

The walk from Witton Park which sets off at 8:15am should take around half an hour to get into the Town Centre.

For those registering their own walk into town which is over 0.5 miles will receive a free breakfast token at Blakeys.

The walk is again being supported by the Council’s Chief Executive Harry Catherall who is also taking part.

Managers are being encouraged to be flexible where possible to allow as many people as possible to take part.
