Local support for Dementia Awareness Week

Several events and initiatives are planned for Dementia Awareness Week – May 18-24.

On Monday, May 19, health and social care organisations across Blackburn with Darwen and East Lancashire will be holding a dementia awareness event at Turf Moor, Burnley from 10am-3.30pm.

Urgent foster care appeal for Blackburn with Darwen children

Blackburn with Darwen Council has launched an appeal to recruit 20 new foster carers at the start of national Foster Care Fortnight (May 12-25). Local foster carers are urgently needed to look after vulnerable children and young people – from babies to teens - who can’t live at home for many different reasons.

Pioneering technology to boost elderly care

New hi-tech safety devices in residential homes are giving elderly people extra peace of mind.

A pilot scheme for new hi-tech equipment is being rolled out in the borough to help staff in residential homes to meet the needs of vulnerable people even quicker – and give residents more control over their care.

Borough prepares to ‘Ramp Up The Red’

Blackburn with Darwen is getting set to ‘Ramp Up The Red’ later this week.

The Council and other local groups from the borough are getting involved in the British Heart Foundation’s national fundraising day, taking place this Friday February 7, to raise awareness of all heart conditions with a host of events planned.
