A recent health fayre, promoting ways that people can lead healthier lifestyles, was supported by Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Tauheedul Girl’s high school ran the event, in association with One Voice and its award-winning Baiter Sehat campaign, on Saturday, March 25.

Open to members of the public the aim of the fayre was to raise awareness and promote a positive attitude towards health through education and empowerment in a warm and engaging environment.

On the day there were free health checks, dementia advice, information on lung age, NHS blood and transplants and drug and alcohol awareness.

There were also mental health workshops, adult safeguarding information and screening advice.

Stalls were put on by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, BwD health and wellbeing services, Riaz Pharmacy, local Gym providers and many others who offered expert advice.

Sadia Rafiq, Baiter Sehat Lead, said:

We were pleased to see how many people attended the event and, more importantly, that they left better informed about a range of health issues that may affect them or members of their family.

Councillor Brian Taylor, Assistant Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said:

We were delighted to back this event from One Voice Blackburn, who worked with Tauheedul School on raising awareness of the importance of health and wellbeing amongst residents in Blackburn with Darwen and ways we can all lead healthier lifestyles.

One Voice plans to host further events in the near future highlighting health and leisure offers in the local area.
