Free cycling festival at Witton Park

Blackburn with Darwen Free Cycling Festival is being held at Witton Country Park on Saturday June 14 between 12pm and 3pm.

Come along and try out a range of fun cycling activities at the event which is being run as part of National Bike Week.

There are loads of activities during the afternoon.

Bike Track People is bringing along one of their pump tracks. From 5 to 55 years, it is a fun and safe way to improve your riding ability. No need to pedal – it’s all about balance and control. Bikes and helmets are provided for adults and children.

Why not join an organised cycle ride? There will be led cycle rides organised by the Council at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm from the Pavilion. Limited number of adult bikes and helmets available or visitors can bring their own bikes. Free and no need to book.

British Cycling will be leading some local Sky Rides at Witton Park on the day. Limited number of adult bikes and helmets  available for rides starting in Witton or you can bring your own. The rides are free but places need to be booked at www.goskyride.com/Blackburn-with-Darwen.

Rides are around 1 ½ hrs duration and for confident riders.

  • Pleasington Panoramique at 10am. Seven miles. Meet at Witton Park Pavilion.
  • Billinge, Buncer and Beyond Witton Park at 11.30am. Six miles. Meet at Witton Park Pavilion.
  • Wharf to Witton Wanderer at 12pm. Eight miles, two hrs duration. Please note – starting point is at Eanam Wharf.
  • Witton Park Arena will also be offering building tours and taster sessions of Spinning, Insanity & Functional Circuit Training between 12pm and 3pm.

On Yer Bike will be offering bike safety checks and will have a stall offering cycling  products as well as bikes to show.

Councillor Maureen Bateson, Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “Cycling is a fun activity for people of all ages. It is a great way to see the borough and keep healthy. The festival is aimed at encouraging more people to take up cycling or just give it a go on the day.”
