Blackburn with Darwen’s ‘best neighbours’ and community stalwarts were celebrated at a special event at King George’s Hall.

More than 100 people attended to find out who had won the main prizes of the Good Neighbours Awards and to recognise those who make a real difference to the lives of people in their communities.

The hunt for the prize-winners started with the launch of the third annual Good Neighbours Awards 2015, run by Blackburn with Darwen Council and backed by the Lancashire Telegraph, in February.

The awards are also sponsored by Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Group, Blackburn Rovers and Capita.

Councillor Mohammed Khan, leader of the Council, who pledged a pot of money to support Your Call in the future, said: “I was delighted to be part of this celebration of people who make a real difference to the borough.

“Blackburn with Darwen is a better place because of them. The Your Call ethos will go from strength to strength.

“I want to thank all the sponsors, Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Group, Blackburn Rovers, Capita and of course the Lancashire Telegraph for making the Good Neighbours Awards and also the Your Call celebration possible.”

Councillor Khan also spoke how he wants elected members to work hard with their communities to make a lasting difference.

Other speeches were made Blackburn MP Kate Hollern and the Council’s chief executive Harry Catherall while the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Councillor Faryad Hussain unveiled the nine winners of the main prizes.

Mr Catherall told guests that more than 20,000 people had taken part in Your Call activities and thanked the sponsors for their support.
