Blackburn Cathedral will host lectures to mark the 800th Anniversary of the sealing of one the most important document in the development of Western Civilisation.

At Runnymede in 1215 rebellious Barons and King John met to sign a charter that would lead to the development of the British Parliament and lay the foundations for governance through constitutional monarchy, Magna Carta.

To celebrate this landmark document Blackburn Cathedral will be joined by guest speakers Prof. Simon Lee (Emeritus professor of jurisprudence at Queens University, Belfast) and Dr. Mark Hocknull (Canon Chancellor of Lincoln Cathedral) for a morning of discussion of the relevance of Magna Carta today.

Asking the questions of: ‘Has Magna Carta anything to say to our society about liberty and the due process of law?’ And ‘What is the continuing legacy of Magna Carta?’ Residents are invited to attend what will be a lively morning of debate and discussion from 10am – 1pm on Saturday February 28th.

Tickets are £10 each but free to students and refreshments will be served.
