Countdown to Christmas with Blackburn’s 2015 Christmas Guide

Published Wednesday 4 November 2015 at 15:43

Hot off the press in time for half term, 30,000 copies of the Blackburn BID’s 32 page free Christmas event guide will be delivered to Blackburn Market this Friday ready for distribution across the town as Blackburn gears up for an exciting programme of festive partnership events and activities.

The guide includes photographs of all the artists at this year’s celebrity Christmas lights switch on, seasonal services at Blackburn Cathedral and details of how to take part in the Festival of Light parade with lantern making workshops at The Bureau. There are also advance booking details for next year’s ambitious Festival of Flowers which will mark the completion of the multi-million pound Cathedral Quarter development.

Production has been made possible by sponsorship by Blackburn Market who are staging indoor and outdoor festival activities, The Mall, Blackburn College, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, King Georges Hall and a range of local advertisers.

The full colour mini magazine contains nomination forms for a new ‘Be Surprised’ reward scheme which is being supported by Business in the Community’s Healthy High Street businesses, Marks and Spencer, Boots, Santander, Greggs, EE and Exterion.  Customers can win £50 to spend in the shop of their choice by nominating something or someone that they have been surprised by in the town centre, from a nice cup of coffee, a clean environment, specialist knowledge or great customer service. Winning businesses will receive a coveted Be Surprised Trophy.

For children and families, there are also details of The Clangers appearances, The Mall’s spectacular Christmas ice palace installation and this year’s pantomime, ‘Aladdin’ at King Georges Hall.

In addition there’s information about a special ticket offer partnership with Transdev providing a one off  £1 return ticket to Blackburn Town Centre on the night of the Christmas lights switch on, after 4.30pm so that families can leave the car at home and travel to and from Blackburn from anywhere on the Blackburn network.

20,000 additional copies of the guide are being distributed across the following targetted ‘battleground’ areas by Carrier Pigeon Magazine

Fulwood, Broughton, Grimsargh, Goosnargh, Longridge, Ribchester, Mellor, Mellor Brook, Balderstone, Beardwood, Lammack, Wilpshire, Langho, Billington, Brockhall Village, Calderstones Park, Copster Green, Whalley, Oakdale & Fernhust, Read, Waddington, Barrow and Clitheroe.

They will be delivered in boxes of 250-300 and over the next four weeks will be distributed to shops, cafes and businesses to be given to customers in the run up to Christmas.

BID Manager, Harriet Roberts said,

We are grateful to all our advertisers who have supported the production and to the BID businesses who support us by distributing the booklet to their customers.  Our BID ambassadors will be out and about next week delivering copies to businesses for distribution to customers at shops, cafes, banks and salons across the BID area.

Executive member for regeneration for Blackburn with Darwen Council, Councillor Phil Riley, said:

Blackburn Town Centre is becoming known for offering some fantastic family events and Christmas will be no exception with lots going on. Combined with the regeneration projects that  are coming to a successful conclusion,  I’m delighted to say we’ve got plenty to offer and I hope people will bring their friends and family  to take part in all the festive events that are going on.
