The West End Girls (WEGs), part of One Voice, will be supporting the Friends of Corporation Park event and volunteering on November 8.

Councillor Mohammed Khan, leader of the Council, said: “I want to thank all community groups who are helping out during the borough’s Remembrance week events. We must never forget the sacrifice people made during those terrible conflicts.”

Many of those from the BME community in Blackburn with Darwen had relatives and forefathers who fought for the Allies in numerous conflicts and as many as 400,000 Muslims died in the First World War.

Councillor Faryad Hussain, Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, said: “Remembrance Sunday and Remembrance Day are important events where all sections of the community can come together and remember the fallen who sacrificed their lives so we could have a better future today.”

One Voice Chairman, Abrar Hussain said, “It is important that children as well as the local community continue to remember the devastating effect of war on communities around the world and that we respect and understand what it is those before us did so bravely on behalf of us all.”
