Blackburn with Darwen Council has been recognised for its work in Adult Social Care, after being nominated for two awards.

The LGC Awards 2014 shortlist has been announced this month, with Blackburn with Darwen Council nominated in two categories, “Driving efficiency through technology” and “Service Delivery Model”.

The LGC Awards are the largest and most well-respected accolades in local government, showcasing creativity, intelligence and determination.

Blackburn with Darwen’s Adult Social Care service has been nominated due to the work it has carried out in telecare in the community,  and the ‘Safe and Well’ partnership with technology provider Tunstall Ltd, facilitating the development and implementation of Assisted Living Technology.

This work has led to improved outcomes for residents, as well as substantial savings.

Cllr Mohammed Khan, Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care said:

To be shortlisted for two prestigious awards really showcases the fantastic work that the council has been doing in Adult Social Care.

Utilising new technology in ways which both improve the lives of residents and also help save money is an important part of our Adult Social Care strategy, and being recognised in this way, alongside impact assessments show that our strategy is working for our residents now, and will continue to do so in the future.

Steve Tingle, Director of Commissioning and Adults said:

It is great news that we have been shortlisted in two categories, and it is a credit to all of the staff who make the Adult Social Care service what it is, working hard for our residents and delivering a fantastic service, whilst also preparing for the future.
