Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has been announced as the latest celebrity to join the line-up for Blackburn’s sci-fi themed Christmas Lights Switch On.

The corrie star who plays David Platt in the long-running soap, will be joining Britain’s Got Talent dancing troupe ‘Boogie Storm’ on stage to light up the town on Saturday, November 26.

David Platt has been a familiar face on our screens for sixteen years and this year has been dominating the story lines in the popular soap.

The Coronation Street actor from Pudsey, West Yorkshire, started his career on the soap in April 2000 and has gone to appear in more than one thousand episodes. He’s been involved in some of the soaps most talked about story lines, including Richard Hillman driving the Platt’s into a canal and his current murderous plot to avenge his wife Kylie. His story line success has stretched across the country resulting in him winning countless awards including the ‘Best Villain’ at the British Soap Awards in 2008.

Jack, who’s recently opened his own performing arts school in his home town, is passionate about performance and getting active in local communities, he said, “I’m really excited to be coming to the Blackburn Big Lights Switch On. It’s going to be a great way to kick off the festive season in the town and I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone on the night”.

The festive event organised by the Blackburn Business Improvement District in Partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council coincides with the town’s first Comic Con and will be held on King William Street between 4pm-6pm on Saturday, November 26. There will also be “Meet and Greet” opportunities in The Mall and full details will be released soon.
