A community volunteer organisation who have set themselves the challenge to raise over £25k over the next year for East Lancashire Hospice, are holding their launch event this Friday, March 20.

The event will look ahead to the fundraising activity which will take place in the year ahead, such as a Vintage tea party, Sky Dive and ‘Bake Off’ competition, as well as a cycle challenge set to take place in 2016.

This will involve volunteers cycling between the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Eiffel Tower, Blackpool Tower and finally finishing at Darwen Tower, over the course of a gruelling 15-day trek.

The event is also being held at Jan’s Conference Centre in Blackburn, will include food and refreshments, and speeches from Cllr Kate Hollern, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, and John Root who is taking part in the cycling challenge.

Connect UK have already completed several projects within the area, including visiting residents at both Blackburn Hospital and East Lancashire Hospice on Christmas Day to spread some festive cheer.

Listen to Chair of Connect UK Cllr Salim Sidat talk about Connect UK and their upcoming projects, as well as John Root talk about the cycling challenge:
