Blackburn Foodbank approaches third Christmas

As Blackburn Foodbank approaches their third Christmas since being formed just over two years ago, Blackburn with Darwen Council are again supporting their drive for food donations, with winter being a busy time for the Foodbank’s volunteers.

Staff are being encouraged to donate whatever they can to help replenish the Foodbank’s stocks during the winter period, following a similar drive last December which successfully raised both money and food stock for the Brunswick Street based Foodbank.

Ros Duerden, Project Manager at Blackburn Foodbank said: “The run up to Christmas and winter in general is always an extremely busy time for our volunteers, and any donations that people can make will go to ensuring struggling families have enough to eat during the winter months.

With donation points across the town centre, we appreciate all of the donations we have received over the last two years and any help that people can give is a fantastic help.”

Cllr Phil Riley, A Trustee of Blackburn Foodbank said: “In the last two years, the Foodbank has helped thousands of the most vulnerable local residents. The Council support this fantastic work all through the year but particularly in winter when demand for the service  is even higher than usual.”
