Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH)

Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) is the central resource for the Blackburn with Darwen area receiving all safeguarding and children in need enquiries. The team consists of Childrens Social Care, Engage, Education, Police, Adult Social Care, Health, Domestic Violence Adviser, Housing, Probation and Inspire. There are virtual links with the Fire Service, The Youth Justice Service and Early Help Team.

All contacts to Social Care are received and screened by MASH, who will gather information held by agencies and a decision will then be made as to how the family will receive the most appropriate level of support they require. This could be through the following routes:

  • Signposting to universal services
  • Meeting the threshold for support by Early Help Services
  • Meets threshold for the Children with Disabilities Team
  • Meets threshold for Children’s Services for an assessment.
