A taste of the Caribbean brings winter sunshine to the heart of Blackburn

Blackburn’s Cathedral Quarter is welcoming vibrant restaurant and bar Turtle Bay this month – creating 50 local jobs.

Opening its doors on Sunday, February 12 in the Cathedral Square development, it is set to bring a new, vibrant and delicious Caribbean dining and drinking experience to the town.

The 165 seater restaurant occupies one floor at 3 cathedral Square, and is all about celebrating the lively, colourful, soulful and delicious experiences that the Caribbean has to offer.

Turtle Bay’s mission is to capture the spirit of celebration that the Caribbean is famed for around the globe – making customers happy by delivering a combination of joyous food, wicked drinks and a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

The Blackburn restaurant will be no exception with its vibrant, welcoming atmosphere and bespoke design. It is inspired by beach shacks and the bold, bright interior is designed to transport Blackburn guests to sunnier climes.

As well as the stunning ‘island hut’ bar, there’ll be outside dining and a vibrant, open ‘street kitchen’.

Food is at the heart of the Turtle Bay experience – just as it’s central to the heart and soul of Caribbean culture. The menu offers a vast choice of bold flavours and rustic dishes, all inspired by the laid back, social outlook of the Caribbean, including classics such as jerk chicken, curry goat and a jerk BBQ pit. The famous cocktail menu has more than 40 Caribbean rums to choose from.

The £34million Cathedral Quarter scheme is transforming Blackburn town centre. It includes a Premier Inn, Café Northcote, an office block and a public square.

Councillor Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive member for Regeneration, said:

“This is a very exciting addition to the Cathedral Quarter development and a real boost to the town’s evening economy, nightlife and restaurant offer.

“Turtle Bay is a very well-known chain and a high quality brand and will build on the great atmosphere in the Cathedral Square, bringing a real vitality. This is an exciting time for the area.”
